Adoption Process
1. Once you see or hear about a Golden that you are interested in,
you need to complete our adoption application. Scroll down for application
downloads.
You may also call our infoline at (910) 791-5001 to request an
application be mailed to you.
2. You may mail the application to CFGRR, P.O. Box 12697, Wilmington, NC
28405, or you may return e-mail the completed application to cfgrr@hotmail.com.
3. Once an application is received by CFGRR, your references will be checked. We ask that one of the three references be a veterinarian. In cases where you are adopting a pet for the first time, we will follow up on vet visits for the first year after the adoption of our Golden. The application questions as well as a telephone interview also help to make sure that the Golden you would like to adopt is a good match for your family and lifestyle.
4. After your application is approved, we will set up a time for you to meet with the Golden and their foster family.
5. If after meeting the Golden and it is decided that he or she would be a good match for your family, we will then schedule a "home visit" if you are local to the Wilmington, NC area. This visit is simply to ensure that the Golden placed in the home is going to a safe and secure place and to make sure that the Golden you wish to adopt is a good match with your family and other pets. In cases where you are not local to our area, CFGRR may ask volunteers from other rescue organizations to perform the visit.
6. After a successful home visit, CFGRR will contact you to schedule a time to meet and pick up the new member of your family.
7. Upon adoption, CFGRR requires the signing of our Adoption Contract. Please contact us to receive a copy of the contract.
Adoption Fees are $200 for Goldens under 8 years of age. For Golden oldies, we offer a reduced adoption fee.
Cape Fear Golden Retriever Rescue, Inc. has a thorough screening process in place before allowing our Goldens to be adopted into their forever homes.
