Golden Tales

Macey was a 3 year old girl that was an owner surrender in the Summer of 2005. Macey had been used for breeding purposes several times in her short life and her family had grown tired of her and the litters of puppies. Macey had just weaned her final litter of pups when she was turned over to CFGRR. Macey was in poor health as she was emaciated, full of worms and to no surprise, she was heartworm positive. Over the course of the next four months Macey was lovingly nursed back to health by her foster Dad and is now adopted by a wonderful family and is living "the good life" with her Golden-brother, Beau. Macey even has her own web page dedicated just to her! You can Macey's web page by clicking on this link.

Penny

Here are a couple of pictures of our "Penny". She is such a sweetheart. Loves attention, roast pork and black cherry ice cream. Has new chew toys that she likes to squeak. Runs in the backyard at break-neck speed, then comes and waits for me to open the door. Se guards the house for us during the day and barks at anything that comes near the house. She is so much fun to have with us and I think she really likes living here. We sure do like her being her. She and I walk every morning and evening and she checks out all the new scents as we walk down the road. We are very glad she has become part of our family. - Susan and Walt

Elvis

Dear Priscilla and Cape Fear Golden Retriever Rescue Volunteers:

It was never more apparent than over the past week of why it was so necessary for Baylee (Dixie) to come into our lives when she did earlier this year. A week ago, we had to make the hard decision to put our 13-year-old Golden, Casey, to rest after a short struggle with Cancer. We had no idea that he was so sick and the situation was so grave, when we took him in that morning for what we thought was a routine x-ray to assess how bad his arthritis was. It turned out that most of his internal organs, spleen, liver, heart, and spine, were ridden with tumors/cancer and the situation was so grave, we had to put him to rest immediately.

I don't know what we would have done if we had to go home to an empty house with no Golden to greet us. It was such a comfort to have Baylee waiting for us. The minute we walked in, she knew that something was just not right. She astutely gave us our space to only love and cuddle her when we needed it the most, coming up to us only to say “I'm here for you”. As we watched videos of our Casey, she sat with us quietly and only showed confusion when she heard him bark as if to say “Where is he?” She continues to be a comfort to us as we still grieve. She respectfully will not even eat out of a bowl that was once used by her “friend” or even eat in the place where he ate, until we tell her “it's O.K. baby girl”. She's truly a joy for us to have in our lives, as we go through this difficult and trying time.

This week should be affirmation and a testament to you all as to why it is so important for you to do what you do. You all make lives complete and bring us unconditional love and joy via the Goldens you take in and we adopt. They expect so little from us, and give back so much. The work you do can ultimately give comfort to us when we need it the most. Please pass along my thanks to everyone who has a hand in Cape Fear Golden Retriever Rescue. We love you all!!
