My name is Ella, I'm now almost 6 months old, and this is my story. I'm hoping that after you read this short story, that you will find it in your hearts to help the Cape Fear Golden Retriever Rescue. You see….they saved my life. Without their help I would have been euthanized.
I was born and bred (by an irresponsible breeder) locally and was purchased by a local family. It was wonderful, as I thought I had found my forever home. However, soon they realized that there was a problem and I was not going potty like I should. I was becoming very weak and lethargic and they grew very concerned. They took me to their vet and their worst fears were confirmed. I had an infection in my joints from being septic, which needed several daily trips to the vet for injections of antibiotics.
Turns out I was born with a birth defect and a condition called “ectopic ureters.” Long story short, the tubes that carry urine from my kidneys to my bladder were in the wrong place. I was very afraid.
The family didn't have the money to get the rest of the tests and possible surgery that I would need to save my life. So here I am. Thank goodness they called CFGRR and they took me in. I went on a road trip to the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Cary on July 24th and underwent further tests. They scheduled me for emergency surgery the very next day. Hopefully, this surgery will result in me being able to urinate normally. However, we won't know for several weeks.
CFGRR doesn't usually send out pleas for financial help, but my surgery and immediate ongoing checkups, medication and care will cost close to $5,000.00. The surgery alone was $3,100. So far, about $3600 has been raised for me - so I'm hoping that in this time of need, all of you that have supported rescue by adopting, purchasing merchandise, or sending donations will again open your hearts and help my cause. CFGRR appreciates any donation you can provide.

I love my foster family that is taking such special care of me during my time of recovery. They are giving me everything I need and more during this difficult time. Thank you in advance for any donation that you can give to my cause.
Love,
Ella
PS - UPDATE!!! I have been adopted! A wonderful family has made me part of their family! I now have a new golden brother "Kodi" who was also rescued and adopted from CFGRR!
